From Marketing Veteran to Global AI Lead: How I Did It in 4 Months (And I Still Don't Code)

Six months ago, I was a Global Product Manager feeling stuck in the “middle management trap.”

I had 25 years of experience, but I felt the industry changing. I was terrified that my career was becoming obsolete, and as a single mother of three, I couldn’t afford to fall behind. I wasn’t a tech expert, and I had never written a single line of code in my life.

Today, I lead the Global AI Programme for the world’s largest crop protection company.

It took me exactly four months to go from “AI beginner” to “Global Lead.” And I did it by realizing one simple truth: You don’t need to learn to code to win with AI. You need to learn how to multiply the experience you already have.

Four months, five steps. It started with one chat: decide to learn, build something real, automate, apply it to business problems, scale it.

How I Did It

I started with a simple decision to learn. I bought a laptop because my employer restricted AI models on company equipment. I purchased a Mac for the first time, which meant a steep learning curve for a new operating system. I also signed up for a paid Claude subscription to move beyond basic chatbot usage.

I stopped consuming and started building. Instead of saving videos for “later,” I opened a chat and asked: “Help me understand how I can work with you.” My first project was a Google Sheet that used AI to improve my German with text-to-speech and auto-correction. Hearing the AI translate my words for the first time was the moment I realized my potential.

I moved from manual tasks to full automation. I eventually installed VS Code and began running Claude Code sessions. I built dozens of landing pages, AI front desks, and voice bots to understand the full landscape of what was possible. I did this on a $20/month subscription, treating every project as a practical lesson.

I applied my professional experience to business problems. Leadership eventually invited me to a pilot project exploring AI for Product Management. Because I had spent 25 years in commercial roles, I knew exactly which business problems needed solving. I started building solutions, and the demand for my help grew rapidly across the organization.

I scaled my impact to the entire company. I presented my results at a regional conference, and the response was overwhelming. I realized that the automations I built for my own job could easily scale to 30 other Global Product Managers. I showed the Global Head of Marketing the impact of each use case, focusing on time saved and better business processes.

I finally had the opportunity to present my results to the Global Head of Marketing. I explained each use case clearly: how it improved personal productivity, saved time and money, and optimized our business processes. That was the turning point. Shortly after, I was promoted to Global AI Lead for Global Product Management.

But the title isn’t the most important part of this story. The real transformation is how I feel today. I have reclaimed the feeling of being the driver of my own career, rather than a silent spectator watching the world change around me. I am no longer afraid of becoming obsolete. I continue to build projects: both for my company and for myself every single day.

You can do this, too. All you need to do is open your very first chat and start.

If you’re an experienced professional feeling left behind by AI, you don’t need to learn to code. You need to learn to multiply your experience.
